Technical Sheet

Krill are tiny marine crustaceans that primarily eat microscopic photosynthetic organisms called phytoplankton. In turn, krill serve as food for many large marine animals, notably baleen whales. Although krill reside in oceans around the globe, Moss Nutrition KRILL OIL is sourced strictly from krill residing in the cold Southern Ocean near Antarctica.

Antarctic krill are a good source of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) which, in krill, are found naturally bound to phospholipids. Due to being phospholipid-bound, the omega-3s in krill oil exhibit outstanding intestinal absorption and uptake into human body tissues when compared to ethyl ester or triglyceride-bound fish oils.

The phospholipid-enhanced absorption offered by krill oil also has been found to help reduce the incidence of "fishy burps" that some people experience when taking cod liver oil or other types of fish oil supplements.

Among marine omega-3 oils, krill oil is unique because of its naturally-occuring astaxanthin content. Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant with potential to cross the blood brain barrier, is the pink pigment naturally found in shrimp and krill. The astanxanthin found in krill oil helps to protect its omega fatty acids from oxidation and preserve product freshness. Moss Nutrition KRILL OIL is further protected with additional vitamin A, provided in the antioxidant natural beta carotene form.

Krill oil has been researched to provide anti-inflammatory activity in heart, brain and intestinal tissues, and to help support cholesterol and lipid levels within the normal range.
Moss Nutrition KRILL OIL is rigorously tested for purity and potency to help ensure your safety. It contains no detectable lead, arsenic, mercury or other heavy metals, no PCBs or dioxins, and no gluten or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Our KRILL OIL is harvested in a sustainable manner and endorsed by Friend of the Sea, a non-profit non-governmental agency with the mission of conserving marine habitats.
